LO1: Task 1, Reasons why personal media profiles are needed

Personal media profiles are created in order to show future/potential employers all of the work you have completed and accumulated over time. These pieces of work in the Creative Digital Media side of things could include graphic design, live action video work, articles, photography, animation, web design and sound editing work. The personal media profile will show off you skills as a worker who can work in a range of different types of media. This will be helpful in the senecio of applying for a university course, or the process of applying for your desired career, if you are pursuing a career in media, and when applying to volunteer or free lance for a certain client or business.

Media profiles can also specialise in particular types specialisms, which you can decide to feature only on your personal media profile, in order to make it clear that you are dedicated and highly interested in that certain specialism. That specialism could include things like game design, or 2D animation.

Websites are a good tool to use as a platform for a personal media profile, because they can be accessed by anyone on any type of device. A blog could also be a useful platform to use, however websites are more effective to personalise and stylise, which is the desired effect you want to create since your personal media profile needs to clearly represent you as an individual, and have a clear sense of your personality, in order for your potential employer to feel as if they are getting to know you.

Websites are easy platforms to upload digital content up to, such as interactive flash files, if you are a coder/animation games designer, or video work which has been sourced by Video On Demand websites such as YouTube or Vimeo. Websites can also easily feature pieces of photography, and written work you have completed.

Personal media profiles benefit you as an individual, since they can clearly inform future employees that you are familiar with specialist types of software which are used in the industry as a standard, and can also make you shine more as a candidate in the scenario that your port-folio is brilliant yet your grades do not reflect this. This means that personal media profiles have a more persuasive nature at winning the viewer of your media profile over by your work, which shows that you have experience, and giving you a potential foot into the door of your desired career path.
